GLOSSARY- WEEK 3

14 THERMAL RESISTANCE terms

This glossary goes according to week 3 of the course heat transfer, where we will be involved with concepts on the topic "Thermal Resistance"

Conduction shape factor
Phrase
When you have two surfaces, each one emits radiant energy (according to its temperature level) towards the surroundings, and part of it is intercepted by the other. The relationship between the energy intercepted by one surface and the total emitted by the other is what is known as the vision factor or form factor.
Example: The conduction form factor, S, is related to thermal resistance
es: Factor de forma de conducción
Convection resistance
Phrase
It is the thermal resistive capacity that a material has through convection heat transfer
Example: Convection itself is the transport of heat through fluid movement
es: Resistencia a la convección
Critical radius of insulation
phrase
The critical radius of insulation is the measure of the radius of an insulator at which the heat transfer is maximum or the resistance of the heat flow
Example: Total thermal resistance is the inverse of the total heat transfer coefficient. (RT = 1 / U)
es: Radio crítico de aislamiento
Cylinder conduction resistance
Phrase
It is the resistivity to the transfer of heat by conduction to a cylindrical surface.
Example: Consider a long cylindrical layer (like a circular tube) of inner radius r1, outer radius r2, length L, and average thermal conductivity k.
es: Resistencia de conducción del cilindro
Efficiency
Noun
El rendimiento térmico o eficiencia de una máquina térmica es un coeficiente o ratio adimensional calculado como el cociente de la energía producida y la energía suministrada a la máquina.
Example: When the hot tank has a hot T of 400 ° C (673K) and a cold T of approximately 20 ° C (293K), the maximum (ideal) efficiency will be: = 1 - Cold T / Hot T = 1 - 293/673 = 56 %.
es: Eficiencia
Fin efficiency
Phrase
The efficiency of a fin is the relationship that exists between the heat (Qf) that is transferred from a fin under certain conditions, and the maximum heat transfer (Qmax) that would exist if that fin were at the maximum temperature (the temperature of the base).
Example: The fins are solids that transfer heat by conduction along their geometry and by convection through their environment.
es: Eficiencia de las aletas
Interface resistance
Phrase
Thermal Interface Materials (TIM) are those that are used in microelectronics, mainly microprocessors, to increase the performance of heat transfer between the silicon chip and the copper heat sink, replacing the air present in this area due to the roughness of the surface of both components
Example: Characterization of the Composite Interface of Thermoset Polymeric Matrix Reinforced with Cuban Henequen Fibers
es: Resistencia de interfaz
Plane wall conduction resistance
Phrase
It is the resistivity to heat transfer through conduction to a flat wall
Example: Let us consider a plane wall of homogeneous material through which heat is flowing in x-direction. • Let Q +x L = thickness of the wall
es: Resistencia a la conducción de la pared plana
Radiation resistance
Phrase
It is the thermal resistance capacity that a material has through the transfer of heat by radiation.
Example: Radiation is a type of heat transfer, associated with the emission of heat from bodies depending on the temperature in which they are.
es: Resistencia a la radiación
Sphere conduction resistance
Phrase
It is the resistivity to the transfer of heat by conduction to a spherical surface
Example: Consider a sphere of radius R in which the initial temperature distribution and boundary conditions have spherical symmetry. Isothermal surfaces are concentric spherical surfaces and temperature is a function of radial distance r and time t only.
es: Resistencia a la conducción de la esfera
Surfaces
Noun
The outer part of bodies is called surface.
Example: The sun is a ball of incandescent gas, what we see is its surface.
es: Superficies
Thermal contact conductance
Phrase
It is the resistance per unit area of the interface; contact thermal resistance is the inverse of contact thermal conductance.
Example: In thermal engineering, the thermal contact conductance [W / m 2. K] or the thermal contact resistance [m 2. K / W] represents the heat conduction between two solid bodies.
es: Conductancia de contacto térmico
Thermal contact resistance
Phrase
the thermal contact resistance [m 2 .K / W] represents the heat conduction between two solid bodies. When components are bolted or pressed together, a knowledge of the thermal performance of such joints is also needed.
Example: Contact resistance is highly dependent on surface roughness. The pressure that holds the two surfaces together also influences the contact resistance.
es: Resistencia al contacto térmico
Total thermal resistance
Phrase
In short, we can say that thermal resistance is the ability of a material to oppose the flow of heat.
Example: Total thermal resistance is the inverse of the total heat transfer coefficient. (RT = 1 / U)
es: Resistencia térmica total
